Everybody knows that no matter how nicely you decorated the living room, no matter how much furniture you moved... at all the good parties sooner or later everybody ends up in the kitchen!
IKEA knows this as well and created a very entertaining viral that I'd like to share with you. Even the song is good... what do you think?
"You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties"
Whoever posted this has impeccable taste! I have the same ad on my LinkedIn profile. The song was a big hit for Jonah Lewie, but he never had a really good follow up. Take a look at the original video:

It's also shot in a "kitchen" - no doubt where the creatives got the idea. Of course the ad is better directed, the girls are more up to date and relevant and everyone is extremely cool. What a great achievemt, tyo make kitchens "cool". It's a fantastic bit of music, and a fantastic bit of serendipity.
It's worth subscribing to Viit4info:

Thanks for the compliment on my taste :) I knew it was a cover but I did not know the original song so far... now I must say I like the cover better.
ReplyDeleteThe link is very useful! Especially now for my dissertation... I am planing a new post about sources worth subscribing to aswell anyway.
Ikea does a lot of very good marketing in my opinion, but this viral is especially nice and keeps the balance between advertising and being subtle enough to let people still like it.

Is it a cover? I think it's the original... and I also think Jonah Lewie has a cameo part in the ad I think - he's the guy in the dark suit at the back. You call it a viral , but it was a TV ad. I can't say which came first though. I hope you also use Creative Club for your advertising sources - we subscribe to it so that you can.
ReplyDeleteIt's a british band named Man Like Me ( http://www.myspace.com/manlikeme ) who is singing the song in the advert. I didn't know that it was a TV spot...in full length? I thought it was a viral since it would be a little long for a TV ad and because of the entertainment factor and the little quirkiness it is just a thing you'd love to share. If Ikea produced it for TV in first place, I'm sure they had the viral aspect in mind, too.
